TOWN DESTINATION AND COUNTRY

ARUSHA TANZANIA

Arusha is one of the Tanzania’s most developed and fastest growing towns. The town which sprawls near the foot of Mount Meru at about 1300m altitude enjoys a cool, temperate climate throughout the year. This is also the town which is the current East African Community headquarter, the site of the Rwanda 1994 Genocide Tribunal and the gateway for wildlife and climbing safaris to famous national parks of Serengeti, Tarangire, Lake Manyara as well as the great landmarks of Ngorongoro Crater, Olduvai Gorge and Mount Kilimanjaro.

The town which is the main trading centre for Tanzanite; a unique gemstone mined in northern Tanzania and found nowhere else in the world, has also become popular centre for international meetings, conventions and conferences..
Lying halfway between Cairo and Cape Town, the town has a history that starts in the last decade of the 19th century when Captain Johannes built a fort at the foot of Mount Meru to facilitate the German colonisation of what later became known as Tanganyika. From the little fort, which still stands and has been converted into a museum of natural history.
